FoL Book Sale Treasures…

Last weekend was the local Friends of the Library (FoL) book sale, a huge annual event which draws hundreds of people from around the South Plains. It’s a really fun time and the prices of books are very affordable so I had a good time. (I *may*, in fact, have got *slightly* carried away in the process, but that’s neither here or there really.) These have been separated into fiction and non-fiction.

Embers – Sandor Marai
The Longest Journey – E. M. Forster
The Best American Short Stories 2010 (ed. Richard Russo)
The Secret History – Donna Tartt
Smilla’s Sense of Snow – Peter Hoeg
The Lady’s Maid – Margaret Forster
All the Kings’ Men – Robert Penn Warren
Snow – Orhan Pamuk
Sister Carrie – Theodore Dreiser
Gaudy Night – Dorothy L. Sayers
Dandelion Wine – Ray Bradbury
Mr. Chartwell – Rebecca Hunt

Beyond the Sky and the Earth: A Journey into Bhutan – Jamie Zeppa
Americana: Dispatches from the New Frontier – Hampton Sides
London – A. N. Wilson
Lest Innocent Blood be Shed: The Story of the Village of Le Chambon and How Goodness Happened There – Philip Hallie
Modoc – Ralph Helfer
Kaffir Boy – Mark Mathabane
A Party of One: The Loners’ Manifesto – Anneli Rufus
The Secret Life of the Grown-Up Brain: The Surprising Talents of the Middle-Aged Brain – Barbara Stauch
Children of the Flames: Dr. Josef Mengele and the Untold Story of the Twins of Auschwitz – Lucette Matalon Lagnado / Sheila Cohn Dekel
Queen Victoria in her Letters and Journals – Christopher Hibbert

So lots of lovely reading choices ahead for me!

  1. Lovely finds and a lot I haven’t read. I *have* read Miss Smilla and Gaudy Night – Miss Smilla was good, but Gaudy Night is Great with a capital G!

  2. Ahh, an excellent collection of books. I can’t wait to read your reviews of Snow, Children of the Flames, Kaffir Boy and Lest Innocent Blood be Shed. Beyond the Sky and the Earth has been on my shelf for years and I soooo need to read it.
    Enjoy your books! Happy reading!!
